About Leaf and Lace
Leaf and Lace is the creation of Caitlin Shiner and Araminta Pain. The name Leaf and Lace was chosen to reflect their combined inspirations, Caitlin's love of nature and Araminta's passion for vintage textiles.
Caitlin is a self-taught artist, printmaker and designer working principally in linocut and collagraph.
Her work is inspired by the flora and fauna of the hedgerows and countryside around where she lives in North Devon. She has a deep appreciation for 20th century design with a particular affinity for the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements which have a subliminal influence on her work.
A diverse and spontaneous creative, Caitlin’s work spans many mediums from printmaking to painting and textiles;
Caitlin creates all the hand printed Scarves and fabrics for Leaf and Lace , which are then sewn into beautiful bags and cushion covers.
Araminta studied BA (hons) Costume Production at Plymouth College of Art . Since graduating, she has developed a range of bespoke headbands and hand embroidered wool berets for Leaf and Lace.
Araminta's vintage style headbands utilise Caitlin's hand printed fabrics as well as specially selected pieces of vintage, repurposed and remnant fabrics to create limited edition and special headpieces.
As well as drawing inspiration from the past Araminta is also a keen writer and researcher, and gave a paper at the Costume Society UK's annual conference in 2019 on the influence of Pre-Raphaelite dress on the Austrian designer Emilie Floge which is part of an ongoing research project.
